EBRD Literature Prize for Ukrainian books translated in English

Sector: Culture and creative industries
Type: Award
Location: London, UK
Deadline: Finished
Organiser: EU

This is an international award for books written in Ukrainian or one of the minority languages and published in English. The prize of EUR 20,000 will be equally divided between the author and the translator. This is one of the few literary awards that emphasizes the vital role the translator plays in making these stories accessible to English-speaking audiences.

The books must be translated in English for the first time and published between 15 November 2022 and 14 November 2023.

The winner of the EBRD Literature Prize 2022 was “The Orphanage” by Serhiy Zhadan, famous Ukrainian writer and poet. This year “Mondegreen” by Volodymyr Rafeyenko made it to the top ten finalists.

The prize is provided by the European bank for reconstruction and development, in cooperation with the British Council. This is one of the thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.
